What happened to our civil liberties? I’ve been watching with fascination at the inexorable decline of our civil liberties under the Bush regime. My phone is more than likely being tapped by the NSA. I’m probably being watched by the Department of Homeland security for my frequent flights to Malaysia and blog post will probably get the FBI poking around on my website.
You see while G.W.B was out looking for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq I was out shopping at Target and anywhere else I could get a good deal on diapers. During my search between aisle five for baby wipes and aisle ten for pampers I lost my civil liberties. I’m sure there in the lost and found but I’m afraid if I go to the Target Homeland Security office I’ll immediately be tagged as a supporter of terrorism for demanding my civil liberties back. At the very least they’ll probably accuse me of weakening the resolve of allies like Tom, Ted and Lance.
Think I’m being over reactionary? Explain to me why two U.S. Citizens have been refused entry into the U.S.? The two naturalized citizens arrived on our shores from an extended stay in an allied country but were refused entry into the U.S. by the San Francisco airport custom agents. What the hell? I mean if they were such a freaking threat to democracy why the in gods name were they allowed to board the plane in the first place? And obviously the plane made it to the U.S. in one piece so what gives? If they are such a threat why not just lock them up here? If they are such bad people then surely you’d want to keep them under the watchful eye of the Abu Graib trained CIA prison guards?
No, instead they refuse entry of two U.S. citizens. They sent them back from whence they came. They have probably been picked up by our nice CIA friends for some Alberto Gonzales style non-torture interrogation.
So here I shop in this world of consumerism. I am wondering when they are going to develop a low carb deep fried Twinkie I can eat why I button mash my way through Madden 2007. All the while Bush and his sycophants erode our civil liberties in the name of freedom and democracy.
I feel powerless stop the injustice because fear sways the masses and it is just too tempting to be lulled into complacency by watching pop culture starlets do stupid things on video. But I suppose I can start waking up from this awful reality by blogging my discontent and giving voice to my frustration, desperation and despair.
